Ref Life: Reflection and Video Review using Hudl.

The angles of a 2 man, 2 whistle system are bad. The joke is you have a bad look at the play or an even worse when it comes to making calls in a football game. The one angle from the center of the field on Hudl is the worst possible for reviewing game film, but it is the tool I have to work with today. Unfortunately you will need to open the link below to view the match film. I’ve posted the HUDL time for where the key match moments are on the video feed.

0:42:42 No Call, both players at risk when leading into the space, both simultaneously enter same space, no foul.

1:00:10 slide tackle with what appears to be player landing over top of player slide tackling. Again, neither angle is ideal as purple player gets the ball and plays it out of bounds, from the near side view there is no contact and a good slide tackle. From the far side view, it appears that the white player engages a charge to create space realizing they are going to lose the ball on the slide tackle.

1:05:00 dangerous play.

1:06:33 delayed trip call waiting to see if advantage could be applied..

Corner Kick: Purple score off corner kick. Note the goal line is actually in front of the combination football post/soccer goal. Standing at the goal line and using the posts to set the goal line, provided a good angle to see the player cleared. the ball after it was completely across the goal line. No goal line technology or VAR one real look in real time.

1:36:30. Trip from the side or from behind. Again neither official has best angle. Far official has a look through, near official has possible offside play if ball is played forward. In real time tough to tell if the contact is from side or behind and player is off balance when playing ball. In slow motion definitely a caution for reckless play from behind on purple 27.

Event Manager works with security to escort injured players parent outside the stadium after outburst with fans.

1:49:11 OT1 Through ball to 1v1 with keeper. What position do you use for this play as the lead referee? In real time at speed, I saw a shot, followed by the save and then momentum taking the forward overtop the keeper. No call.

Feel free to watch, comment. These are my reflections after looking at these key match decisions a 2nd and 3rd time now in slow motion.
