On the pitch: No room for dissent. No room for abuse. Make decisions that will benefit the development of new and learning referees. Continued reflection after each match and after working with new team members.
On the physical front: Remove boundaries that impact my overall health. Practice saying no to more games. Practice only scheduling days that allow my body to properly hydrate, rest and recover.
At Home: Donate items not being utilized, repurpose items that have the ability to gain new life.
Scheduling: Work with teams and assignors that make scheduling easy. If a league cannot commit to a given schedule – avoid that league. If a league does not follow what’s in the best interest of the players or the spirit of the game avoid that league and speak up about what’s wrong. Don’t let the athletes or any referee suffer these safety injustices. Prioritize family time and down. time together. While it’s easy to always say yes to more games, staying at rest and enjoying the company of my family really provides great joy.
