Ref Life: Observing Memorial Day off the pitch.

Hello Fellow Referees:

This is a big showcase/tournament/shootout/beach blast weekend for those that make the big $$$$ hosting tournaments in destination places. Do you normally spend your Memorial Day working one of these events? If so, please stop!

This is a holiday to spend with friends and family to reflect on how the United States is still the an ongoing experiment in democracy. This democracy has survived due to the generations before us that served in war time to fight for the freedom that we have now. This freedom allows us to play the games we do.

Just say no, to your assignors and tournament organizers. Say yes to taking a moment to practice gratitude for family, friends and the freedom we have. Take a moment to share stories about how your family came to be in this country. Unless we are indigenous we are all immigrants. This sport celebrates the simplicity that allows it to be played globally and its inclusion of all nations.
