Role of the GK

  • Stops Shots and Crosses
    • Catching
    • Deflecting
    • Boxing
    • Long/Blocking Barrier
    • Using Feet
  • Supporting the Defense
    • Back passes
    • Communication, use unique positional vision.
    • Positionally keeping WINNABLE distance with last defender
    • Reading through balls
  • Initiate and Participate in the Attack
    • Each save starts your attack
    • Each goal kick starts your attack, utilize recent rule changes.
    • Know the drop zones and what you teammates prefer
      • Goal Kicks, (indoor goal clearances by hand)
      • Run of play drop areas- see graphic.
      • Punts
      • Drop Kicks
      • Overhand throw
      • Skip throw
      • Bowling
  • Intimidate the other team.
    • Create a presence within your six, that will make the opposition fear you coming off the line.
    • Don’t be afraid to use your voice to clearly define balls you will win.
    • Show that you are a leader even when a teammate makes a mistake. Be rock solid and supportive of your teammates.
